Position Overview

The Material Purchasing Agent is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring materials, supplies, and services needed for organizational operations. This role ensures that production schedules are supported with timely, cost-effective, and high-quality materials while maintaining strong supplier relationships and optimizing inventory levels.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Procurement and Sourcing

  •  Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers based on quality, cost, delivery, and reliability.
  •  Solicit and analyze quotes, negotiate pricing, and secure favorable purchasing terms.
  •  Issue purchase orders and ensure accuracy of product specifications, quantities, and delivery dates.
  •  Research new suppliers to improve cost efficiency and reduce risk.
Inventory and Logistics Coordination
  •  Coordinate with production, planning, and warehouse teams to determine material requirements.
  •  Monitor inventory levels to prevent shortages and minimize excess stock.
  •  Lead and work with the site controller on inventory counts.
  •  Track shipments, manage delivery schedules, and resolve logistics or transportation issues.
Cost and Data Management
  •  Maintain accurate purchasing records and update ERP/MRP systems.
  •  Analyze purchasing data to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  •  Prepare procurement reports, forecasts, and budget updates.
Compliance and Quality Assurance
  •  Ensure all purchased materials meet company and regulatory quality standards.
  •  Follow company policies, safety guidelines, and ethical procurement practices.

Competencies

  •  Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  •  Knowledge of purchasing processes, supply chain principles, and procurement best practices.
  •  Experience with ERP/MRP systems (Syteline preferred).
  •  Ability to read technical specifications, drawings, or material requirements.
  •  Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  •  Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Education and Experience

  •  5 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain roles.
  •  Industry experience (manufacturing, construction, distribution, etc.) is a plus.
