Mechanical Design Engineer

About the Opportunity
Stratum Group is partnering with an established industrial manufacturer seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and production of custom-engineered equipment.
This position will perform mechanical design calculations, develop fabrication documentation, and ensure equipment meets customer specifications and applicable industry codes. The engineer will collaborate closely with manufacturing, project management, sales, vendors, and customers throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform mechanical design calculations for pressure-containing equipment using Codeware COMPRESS.
- Develop and review fabrication drawings, calculations, bills of materials, weld maps, and design packages.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable ASME, API, TEMA, NFPA, and customer requirements.
- Create 3D models and detailed manufacturing drawings using Autodesk Inventor or similar CAD software.
- Provide technical support to manufacturing teams and resolve design-related issues.
- Review customer specifications and translate requirements into practical, manufacturable designs.
- Estimate material and labor requirements to support project proposals.
- Coordinate with vendors to obtain technical information, pricing, and material availability.
- Design tooling and fixtures that improve manufacturing efficiency and product quality.
- Support continuous-improvement initiatives involving DFM/A, FMEA, FEA, and structured problem-solving.
- Maintain awareness of relevant code revisions, technologies, and engineering best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- At least three years of mechanical design experience involving pressure vessels, tanks, heat exchangers, or comparable fabricated equipment.
- Working knowledge of ASME design requirements and industrial welding practices.
- Proficiency with Codeware COMPRESS.
- Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, Creo, or another 3D CAD platform.
- Ability to interpret customer specifications, engineering drawings, and manufacturing documentation.
- Strong communication, organization, and technical problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting fabrication or heavy manufacturing operations.
- Familiarity with MIG, TIG, SAW, laser, or plasma welding processes.
- Experience coordinating engineering deliverables, project schedules, and design activities.
- Knowledge of DFM/A, FMEA, FEA, and continuous-improvement methods.
Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
